I had another post ready to go but after this weekend this post just felt more appropriate. Several of my friends on Facebook have posted this weekend about diaper blowouts (I’m looking at you Melissa and Hillary). Then this morning Jackson had his first major blowout in a long time. This was the biggest blowout ever. I was up to my elbows in poo. I had to call for backup, the tub had to be filled. He was nearly up to his eyeballs in poo. So with that being said this is my completely informal, superficial, diaper overview.
There are plenty of diapers on the market at all different price points I’ve tried a good variety of them. I’m sad to say I’ve never tried cloth, it just seemed way too involved, and I have yet to try the Seventh Generation ones mostly because they are pricey. My mama told me, “never to waste my money on trash” and even though the diaper is hugging Jackson’s precious baby bottom it still is inevitably trash, trash that will be pooped on.
Huggies – Little Snugglers
I really liked these for the first few weeks when Jackson still had the umbilical stump. These have a notch so that the diaper does not cover the stump. With the pampers you had to fold the top of the diaper down to avoid diapering the stump. The Huggies made it simple especially for those late night changes.
However after the newborn size I stopped using these. I had a couple of them that leaked (though I don’t find the Huggies prone to leaks more than others). When they leaked the diaper had become this giant bloated mess, unlike Pampers that only seem to leak due to bad positioning. In general when a huggies diaper is full you know it. The front bulges so much and when you open it up its like a giant sponge of yellow pee. Personally the huggies just gross me out. I feel the way about the Huggies Little Movers.
Pampers – Swaddlers
After the umbilical stump came off I loved these diapers. They are soft and white (don’t ask why this matters to me but, the more design a diaper has the less I like it). Swaddlers stay on nicely and as long as I get them on nice and tight they don’t seem to leak much. I have no exact reason why I like these so much I just did.
Also Pampers has a great rewards program where you can earn free stuff like Shutterfly photo books or for 4000 points a Jeep Stroller.
Kmart Brand
To the person who gave me these as a gift, they suck. I ended up tossing most of them because they leaked almost immediately and the tabs didn’t stick well. I’m not a brand snob I dress my kid in Target, Walmart clothes but come on Kmart brand diapers, as a gift?
Pampers Baby Dry
I hate these diapers for two reasons. # 1 Jackson appeared to get a rash from them. These diapers are bright blue on the inside with what must be a chemical. The bright blueness only gets nastier as the diaper gets wetter and then it looks like a big blue bloated sponge.
Target Brand
If all ya gotta be is good enough, then these are good enough. They hold up well against leaks though I found the fit to be a little off on Jackson. The price is great.
Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max
Note Dry Max is not Baby Dry. Sadly once baby is out of a size 2 they move up to “Cruisers” or “Little Movers”. And while Jackson isn’t quiet moving yet he is the size of someone who is. I don’t heart Cruisers the way I did Swaddlers. The Cruisers have too much going on esthetically. In other words I don’t think they are pretty. For one the size 3 are an odd shade of purple. I’m usually an open minded person but, purple is not gender neutral and it’s not even a pretty purple. Also because they are made for someone who is moving sometimes they seem to hug his chubby legs too tight or that could be me putting the diaper on too tight. Either way I’m just not in love. More expensive than most.
But Pampers has that pesky perks program that I love so much which means they’ve got me.
Luv’s
The commercial says, “Live and Learn and then get Luv’s”. Well, that says it all these diapers work great. I’ve only tried the size 3 ones but they hold up well and I haven’t had any leaks though I’ve been hesitant to try them overnight because they seem thin. Alas, these diapers have a full on purple pattern with monkey’s, but it is a pretty shade of purple. The price is at least $2-3 less than Pampers or Huggies. I will probably keep some of these on hand for the diaper bag and for back up but I have a feeling I will still buy Pampers because I think they are more absorbent.
But who am I really kidding I’m saving all those Pampers points for a Jeep stroller!
On a side note the day after I wrote this I discovered Pampers Swaddlers in a size 3 at Target. I thought I had died and gone to diaper heaven. Jackson’s bottom is currently swaddled in a lovely white diaper and I am a happy mommy.
Below Jackson modeling his size 3 Swaddlers.
