18 weeks and 5 days 04/04/11 (or 4 months and approx 2 weeks)
Jack turned 4 months about a week and a half ago and things are changing everyday. Jack has become so much more alert and interested in the world. He can actually play now. The time we spent playing on the blanket a few weeks ago was just the start of a regular playtime ritual that I have been doing whenever I’m home and Jack is in a good mood. Right now my living room is showing signs of being home to a baby. We are still using the bounce seat and the playmat. Jackson loves the toys on the bounce seat, though today I noticed that he seems to have gotten bored with some of them. It may be time to switch them out. He also is way more active on his playmat. He swings the toys and pulls his feet in the air and maneuvers his body to get the toys he wants. He rolled over on 3/21 while on his playmat at my moms house. It would be another 2 days 03/23 before he did it at home for John and I to see.
He had his 4 month check up on 3/24. We started trying the rice cereal about a week before this appointment as directed by the pediatrician. It didn’t work out. He didn’t seem interested in doing anything other than spitting it out. Dr. Padma told us not to worry about it and to wait a few weeks and try it again. She said not to worry about veggies or fruits until we see her for the 6 month visit and to work our way through the cereals (rice, oatmeal, barley).
Yesterday we tried the cereal again because Jack seemed to be taking more formula then he had been and Dr. Padma said to try the cereal if he started consuming more formula or waking in the middle of the night. Yesterday the cereal was not a total failure. He ate a few little spoonfuls and managed not to spit most of it out.
I bought him a jumper about 2 weeks ago and it has sat mostly unused since John put it together. Today I decided to put Jackson in it while I watched OLTL (bad mommy!), and see how he did. Like always he played with the little toys and stared in the mirror but then after a few moments he started jumping. He figured it out and he loved it. I have to put some receiving blankets around him and I keep a blanket folded underneath the jumper because he is still a little small for it. His walker is also up here because his Nana ( my mother in law) bought it up to see how he liked it. He does like sitting in it and being pushed around in it and playing with the toys. Though I think I will put it in the basement until he is bigger because I could use one less toy up here. ( ***I realize pediatricians do not recommend walkers, but more on that at a later date****)
