Date Night Done Right

Having a date night is never as
easy as it sounds, at least not for us.
And with the way our last date night went, I’ve been
hesitant to plan another.
Sometimes I don’t feel like it’s worth the hassle.
First there I have to get a sitter and
then I have to decide where to go and what to do.
Do we go out with friends? Do we go
by ourselves? Do we go somewhere that we know and love or do we take a
chance on a new place?
Decisions, decisions.
We get out
with out Jack so infrequently that I want to make the evening worthwhile. So I
don’t feel like I’ve squandered my night out on a bad movie and tasteless food.
Add to this the fact that we don’t know
when our next date night will be, and that in a few short weeks we will be
living with my parents, you could say that the pressure for a good night out
was high.
So we decided to throw caution to
the wind and do something new and different.
We went to the new Revel Casino in
Atlantic City. I made reservations at Amada, chef Jose Garces tapas restaurant,
that I had been dying to try.
Just to be safe I had picked a second restaurant
as a back up plan. But as it turns out there was no need for a back up plan.
The casino was beautiful and the new restaurants and bars were so tempting that
we barely made it to Amada without stopping for a bite to eat or a
quick drink.
But Amada was worth the wait and more. We had a relaxing meal, we
had great conversation, we watched the Flamenco dancers and we felt like
ourselves.
We weren’t mom and dad rushing around. We weren’t clock watching and
worrying. Carrots weren’t flying across the room, Bailey wasn’t begging to go out, I wasn’t jumping up from the table to get more peas for Jack.
We relaxed and as plate, after plate of delicious food came out the
night only got better.
So much, so, that after dinner we
decided to try our luck on the slot machines, which is something we never do. I
feel physical pain when I lose $20 on a slot machine. Not because it’s a lot of
money but because the fun is over so fast and I have nothing to show for it.
But not tonight. Four dollars into
my twenty spot, I hit it. Not a ton of money but a nice $254 which more
than covered our night out. I was thrilled.
Rather than press luck we cashed out and headed home.
At home Jack was fast asleep, thanks
to my mother in law who put him to bed at a reasonable hour ( a rarity for her).
I was so grateful to her for watching Jack, so that John and I could get out.
Hands down the best date night,
ever.

Do you feel like date nights come with a lot of pressure? How often do you get out for one?

Sounds pretty perfect to me! SO happy that the 2 of you had a enjoyable night out.

We try to go at least once a month, but it usually ends up being every six weeks or so… but good enough, I say, with three kids and not living near any family… 🙂

Who plans your date nights? You? Your husband? We have had very few and I think they are soooo important.

Date nights are so important, yet we rarely have any. We need to plan more because I think that one on one time to reconnect is so important.

I am with you, I totally would have quit while I was ahead, what a way to end an already fantastic night.

Our date nights are usually spent with friends getting tacos and frozen yogurt. We need to branch out.

I've always wanted to go to the casino with my significant other :). I hope I don't get addicted to it, though!

Looks like you really had fun. Date nights shouldn't be too much pressure. It's all about being fancy free again, even for just a couple of hours.

After four kids, date nights are seriously rare for us. We're going on one tomorrow, and it's literally been months since the last one. It is NEEDED. But yeah, there's a lot of pressure for each one to be a good one, so we usually end up seeing a movie and going to a favorite restaurant. Not exciting, but relaxed and fun!
