We Are Still New

This weekend we had a first in our house. Our first stomach bug. Jackson’s first time vomiting.

And as with most of the unpleasant firsts, I ran to Facebook in a state of panic, wondering what to do. Desperately trying to figure out how to make him better.

But with a stomach bug there isn’t much you can do hydrate, bland diet and the Zofran the pediatrician prescribed was a big help. Mostly because it made me feel like I could stop the vomiting.

And like always I worried that he wouldn’t sleep or that he would be sick again or that he would get worse. And while Jack slept soundly through the night, I lay awake worried.

And I guess that’s because while I’ve been at this mothering gig for over 2 years now that in many ways I’m still new to this. There will continue to be things that are new for us. There will still be firsts that will throw me for a loop or two.

I’m still very much a new mom and that’s ok.

Glad he's feeling all better – I hate stomach bugs (for me or the kids) more than anything else!

Stomach bugs are the worst and it can hit you anytime… I am just glad my kids are old enough that they usually make it to the toilet on time… Hang in there!

I can't wait till he's old enough to make it to the toilet, that would make life so much easier.

UGH! I am still a new mom and I have a 13 year old, but now I am a new mom to a teenager! I guess when my youngest turns 13 I can finally give up my new mom status – oh wait no because then I will be a new mom to a college student. It never ends!

So the first time the stomach bug hit my house hard my oldest was 3 and my son was 1. My 3 year old would not stop vomiting and my husband panicked as he is known to do and insisted I take her to the emergency room (it was like 7 pm on a Sunday). So I took her to the ER and sat and waited. I had been waiting probably about an hour when I saw a commotion out the doors. In flies my husband cradeling my 1 year old who was wrapped in a blanket and a state of sheer panic! Apparently the 1 year old had started vomiting too (he had been fine when I left them over an hour ago) and my husband had freaked out. He was so freaked that he had a a neighbor bring him to the ER because he "couldn't drive". We did get in the ER quickly then though, I think they want to get my hubby out of the waiting room.

I am sure the talked about the dramatic silly new parents for days!!!!

    Happy he is feeling better!

OK I love your story and it made me feel 100% better about being an overeacting parent.

OH that is THE worst! Hands down. We were initiated with that one pretty early on though. My B was only like 5 months old the first time he had one. UGH!!! Glad he's feeling better!

My boys had their first stomach bug, together at the same time. It was also the first time I was sick, taking care of sick kids. And I'm still new at this too. but we all made it threw! Hope he feels better soon!

Oh, THIS. We had our first tummy bug in November – poor pitiful 2-yo and I spent a few days snuggling on the couch and taking turns being sick… Hugs to you and your little guy – glad he's on the mend!
