Blogging Disney

Disney Social Media Moms On The Road Philly

Last week I attended Disney Social Media Moms on the Road in Philadelphia. It was an invite only conference for Moms and I was so excited to be invited. If you know me, you know that Disney is one of the things I’m passionate about, so I was thrilled that my first blogging conference was a Disney one.

Disney Social Media Moms Pass

DSMM combined Disney, fun and learning and packed it all into about 5 hours. Here are some of my highlights from Disney Social Media Moms on the Road Philly.

Disney Social Media Moms table

1. It was a bit of Disney in Philly. When we walked into the conference there was Disney music playing, Disney backdrops and props for photo ops and Disney decor and snacks on the table. We even had the chance to trade pins but I opted to swap business cards instead cause there was no way I was parting with this gem.

From the moment the conference started I found myself glancing at my friend Crystal anytime they talked about Disney magic or showed the parks or talked about Disney memories, we would get teary-eyed and nod in a way only Disney friends can understand.

2. Meeting Gary Buchanan, Social Media Managing Editor for Disney Parks. Meeting Gary was a bit of a Disney Fangirl moment for me. Gary was so nice and approachable and when I ran into him outside the conference as I was headed to the bathroom and we started chatting (and to think I debated the bathroom break). I got to tell Gary how much I love the videos he has done for the Magical Express bus. For those who aren’t familiar with Gary or the Magical Express, the Magical Express is Disney transportation that picks you up from Orlando airport and takes you to Disney World. For me the moment the video begins to play on the bus, I know my Disney vacation has begun and I get a little teary-eyed.

3. Victoria Lim, Managing Editor Walt Disney World Public Relations, gave a great presentation on Creating Visual Content with Ease. I could have listened to Victoria talk all day and that feeling was shared by a lot of the people I met at the conference. I’ve been debating doing some video on the blog and Victoria offered a lot of great tips about which apps to use and what type of equipment to have. I also got to chat with her after the conference and her advice was to just do it. So you may see some video in the future because if someone from Disney tells me to do it, well I’m doing it.

4. Maria Bailey moderated a segment featuring 3 moms ( who have launched products or started their own businesses.) Amy Bradley (Toy Dozer), Kristi Gorinas (Dad Pack) and Jen Groover (Butler Bag) shared information about starting businesses. There was a great conversation about time management and how to Moms manage to have careers and be present with their children. Two big points were to set boundaries with your time and to “have more fear of regret than you do of failure”.

5. Deb Silber, has definitely earned the title of The Mojo Coach. It was incredibly motivating to hear her speak and I took a lot away from what she said. Here are a few highlights from her talk.

“Every choice is bringing you further from or closer to the lifestyle you want”

“Think a new thought, don’t think I can’t do this, create a new response.”

” Are the people you spend the most time with, the five people that inspire you to do more?”

I left the conference feeling really motivated and excited and of course wanting to plan a Disney vacation. The whole day was so fun and inspiring. It was the perfect experience for my first blogging conference. And as if all that fun wasn’t enough we were even treated to a visit from Mickey.

My JFF girls who made this event so much fun.

Love this: " Are the people you spend the most time with, the five people that inspire you to do more?"

I wish I could have gone after all.

Barb that was one of the biggest takeaways for me, it's such a powerful idea of spending time with those that inspire you.
