While I’m not quite ready to charge head first into the holiday season, I am starting to do a few things to prepare for the holiday season. Little tasks that will make life easier come December. Here are 5 Simple Ways to Prepare for the Holidays.
1. Organize your gift wrapping. If you’re like me you probably have a box or a bag filled with gift wrap, tissue paper and gift bags for the holidays packed away with your Christmas stuff. Pull that out now and sort it out and see what you need and what you don’t. I did this today and was surprised to discover that all I really need is wrapping paper because last year I hit up the after Christmas sales and got gift tags, bows, ribbon and bags. By doing this now you won’t be out shopping and wondering if you need any of those things.
2. Go through your re-gift pile. I know re-gift is an ugly word but lets admit it we all have a stash of gifts in our house that didn’t quite fit us or that our kid already had but, we were too kind to tell grandma or grandpa. Or if you’re a blogger you most likely have some swag that you weren’t quite sure what to do with. Go through this stuff, think about who these items would make a good gift for. In going through my pile I found possible gifts for teachers and co-workers.
3. If you plan on giving any photo gifts now is the time to start working on them. I’m planning on doing a few photo gifts so I’ve been going through my pictures and organizing which ones I want to use for gifts. Check out these great Photo gifts from Tiny Prints
4. Make your gift list. Every year I write down every one who I plan to buy gifts for and next to their name I write down what I already have for them or ideas of what I would like to get them. I keep the list in my purse so that while I’m shopping if I come across a great gift I can write it down and keep track of my purchases. This keeps me from over buying.
5. Start taking pictures for holiday cards. If you’re kids are anything like mine it can be a real challenge to get a great picture for the holiday card. What I like to do is peruse some photo sites like, Shutterfly and check out this years selection of cards. I narrow it down to a few I like and then work on getting a picture that will match the card.

I actually have my photos done… shutterfly had a big sale a few weeks ago. I am almost done with photo project 3. 1&2 are already here…sales in sept. 🙂 Now onto stuffing and mailing. I am also going through the regifting piles. I gave up on bows long ago. I feel so ahead that I know something is going to put me behind..
