The 7 Friends Every Mom Needs

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about friendship. How it evolves over time and like a good wine it tends to get better with age. The longer I’ve known my friends the more I love, respect, and understand them. But more so the older I get the more I realize how much I need my friends and how I need each of them for different reasons. I grew up being told that “you can never have too many friends” and the older I get the more I realize how true that is. In this life we need our friends.

The 7 Friends Every Mom Needs:

The old friend

The one who knows you inside out and backwards and still loves you, mistakes and all . The person that you can go to with your ugly-ugly and who will figure it out, make it pretty and offer you a drink. This is the person who you can tell your same old stories to and they never get bored because they lived them with you.

The Our Kids Are The Same Age Friend

If you had met before kids you probably wouldn’t be friends in fact you aren’t really sure what you have in common other than the fact that your kids are the same age. But that’s ok because this friend will be your go-to person for any thing related to raising your kid. You can commiserate over all the ages and stages.

The Fun Mom

This mom knows how to have a good time, maybe too good of a time . She’s the one planning moms night outs and pouring the extra glass of wine you didn’t ask for. She’s always up for something fun and knows all the best places to go. She’s the type to sing karaoke, rock out on the dance floor or order up a round of shots.

The Seasoned Mom

Her kids are older than yours, she ‘a been there lived through it, seen it all and is always there to talk you off the ledge. You may not talk all the time, after all her kids are busy with school while you’re at home changing diapers but when your son has a weird rash and you’re not sure what to do she’s the girl your picture messaging .

The Friend Without Kids

Yes, those friends without kids can be annoying; with their no kids allowed events and misunderstanding of your life but you need these people . For when you want to feel like a person without kids or when you find yourself with a sitter and no plans these will be the people you check out that great new restaurant with or who you can have some impromptu fun with. Plus they are great when you want to talk about anything but kids.

The Confidante

If you killed someone she would help you bury the body. She’s the one who knows all your secrets like what happened on that spring break trip and who was the first boy you kissed . But don’t worry about her spilling because you know all her dirt too.
The Framily
Those people that have surpassed the friendship level. Your comfortable with each other so much so, that you show up for dinner at their house in sweats and your old glasses. They’re the people who are always at the top of your invite list and who get a pass on just about anything and you forgive easily because your framily.
I think sometimes when we get married and then become parents we don’t think we need our girlfriends anymore but we always need our friends. Friends are our support system to celebrate with us when times are good and to console us when times are bad.

Which one of these friends are you?

As I get older (now in my early 40's) I tend to have less friends. I have many acquaintances but not many REAL friends and I kind of like it that way. I have kids with busy schedules and my schedule is crazy on a day to day basis. When I do have a chance to see friends I want it to be meaningful because it doesn't happen as often as I would like. I've moved many different times throughout my life but one is that is a constant in my life is my school friends that I've known for over 30 years. We may not talk on a regular basis or see one another often but when we do it's seamless and that to me is a perfect friendship.

That is the perfect kind of friendship I have 2 friends from high school who I meet up with every so often and it's like nothing has changed, it's a wonderful feeling.

I'm similar to Trina. I love having a variety of friendships in my life with women of so many different interests.

I'd help you move a body if you needed it. 😉

Oh yes, spot on! And even better are those friends who are all those types rolled into one. 🙂

I feel like a lot of my friends are framily. We don't open ourselves to everyone, but if you are a friend, it is a close one.
