I was provided with a copy of This House Needs a Mouse to review, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Story time at our house is almost always my favorite time of night. Jack is finally settled down and we get to have a few moments of calm while sharing a story. I always love finding a new book that we can snuggle up with and call our own.
We recently added This House Needs a Mouse by C. Jeffery Nunnally, to our night time repertoire. I hate to say that I judge a book by it’s cover but, this cover is so colorful and cute that I couldn’t help but fall in love.
Now I’m pretty certain I wouldn’t want a mouse in my house, but after reading this cute story of a mouse that helps clean up all the crumbs made by messy kids, I might change my mind. When a family with a toddler and one on the way realizes they have a problem with too many crumbs in their house, they come up with an unusual solution, their house needs a mouse.
The family and Mouse live happily until the family realizes it needs a bigger house and can’t take Mouse with. When a new family moves in Mouse realizes that his special cleaning tactics aren’t appreciated by everyone but he keeps at it. Will Mouses new family realize his special talent?
What I loved about this book is that I could relate to the messes that toddlers make (there is a reason I have a dog, he’s the best crumb cleaner) and I could relate to having to move because your family gets too big for your home. When we reached the point in the story about the family moving Jack and I were able to talk about our first home and why we moved. It was nice that the book spurred this conversation.
Jack definitely enjoyed the story and liked character of Mouse. I could tell that he was sad when the family moved away. His favorite part of the story was when the family got Mouse as a pet.
My favorite part was getting to share some quiet time reading the story and then being able to discuss it. I’m always on the look out for books that we can talk about after we read them.
This House Needs a Mouse would make a great edition to your child’s library and is a perfect gift for kids this holiday season.
This House Needs a Mouse can be purchased on the This House Needs a Mouse website or online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Big Tent Books.
