It might be a bit obvious that I like wine. So when a few years ago my Mom’s friend gave her a light up wine bottle as a Christmas gift, I knew I had to recreate it for my own home.
I’m not crafty at all. I don’t own a glue gun and the idea of a DIY project makes me want to run for a bottle of wine. So I was thrilled by how easily this came together and how it remains a staple in my holiday decorating every year.
What you need:
- 35-Count Clear Christmas Light Set
Make sure it only has a plug on one end or else you won’t be able to get them in the bottle. You can also use colored lights like I did. - Empty wine bottle. I tried to pick one that I liked the label of, but if you don’t like the label or prefer something more festive you can cover the label with novelty wine labels like these ones
- Novelty Holiday Wine Bottle Stickers.
Optional:
- Holiday Ribbon
- Other festive decorations
Make sure to rinse the wine bottle out and let it dry. Once the bottle is dry simply place the lights in, if you are using the novelty labels place the sticker securely over the original label. If you’re adding ribbon or other crafty things that are beyond my talents then do so now. Then plug it in.
I tend to keep this decoration in my kitchen throughout the holiday season since it adds a bit of festiveness to the kitchen. It would also make a great decoration for the bar or drink area during your next party.
If you are craftier than I am you could spray paint the bottle a frosted white which gives it a more festive look or drill a hole in the back so that the cord doesn’t come out the top and comes out back of the bottle instead.
Or you can be like me, put the lights in, plug it in, pour a glass of wine and enjoy.

Oo! I actually already have a wine bottle that one of my kids did in school a few years back. This would be PERFECT for that bottle!
