On Monday I took Jackson Strawberry picking over an hour away from home all by myself. No friends, no family just the two of us out on an adventure. We visited Johnson’s Corner Farm in Medford New Jersey. I had heard a lot of great things about Johnson’s but had never been before. It was everything I had been told and more.
We spent about 3 hours at the farm on a surprisingly hot day. We picked Strawberries, ate ice cream for lunch, played connect 4 and enjoyed all the fun of the Discover Barnyard. It was fun, an amazing amount of fun but, it was also exhausting.
And when we got home Jack had that 4 year old forgetfulness. Where even though we had spent the entire day together, he still wants more attention. Even when Mom is cleaning 3 pints of strawberries and putting away groceries. The sound of, “you didn’t pay any attention to me all day” really stung.
So once the Strawberries were clean and Jack was tucked into bed I went to put together a glass (or two) of Strawberry Basil Sangria because you know I deserved it.
Strawberry Basil Sangria
4 Strawberries
1 basil leaf
Ice
4 oz Red Wine ( I used Merlot but any will do)
Splash Brandy
2 oz Sprite
Slice of lime
1. Place Strawberries and torn basil leaf in the bottom of a glass and muddle together, I used a fork to do this.
2. Add wine, Brandy and Sprite and stir.
3. Squeeze lime into glass.
4. Serve over Ice, garnish with a strawberry and a slice of lime.
For a larger crowd use a whole bottle of wine, 2 shots of brandy, a can of sprite and as much Strawberry and Basil as your heart desires.
This Sangria was refreshing and delicious and really hit the spot after a long day outside. It also paired really well with the Apple Berry Pie that we picked up at Johnson’s.
