6 Summer Wine Picks: Perfect for Hot Days

My Mom always says, that you shouldn’t drink wine in the heat and as someone who once had one too many glasses of wine on a hot summer day, I might be compelled to agree. And while wine, especially red might not be your go to pick for some summer day drinking there are still a variety of wines that pair perfectly with summer time, after all you can’t have sangria without the wine.

6 Summer Wines

Rose

Rose is one of my favorite wines for summer time. It’s pink color is just fun and this dry wine with hints of fruit is the perfect alternative to a red wine. Hog Wash Rose is a great splurge for an excellent Rose. For a slightly less expensive Rose I like La Pepie.

Riesling

This white wine that ranges from sweet to dry is my go to white wine for summer. It’s delicious and refreshing and pairs great with seafood. You can’t go wrong with 14 Hands Riesling, it’s been my favorite Riesling for a long time.

Zinfandel

For the red wine lovers a Zinfandel is the perfect red wine for summer. Note this is not a white Zinfandel, it’s a delicious slightly fruity red wine. It’s one of my favorites to serve at BBQ’s because it pairs well with steaks and burgers. Dancing Bull Zinfandel is my go to Zinfandel.

Pinot Grigio

Pinot Grigio is the perfect wine for summer sipping and it makes a great base for a white sangria. It pairs well with seafood, chicken and vegetables. There are a ton of great Pinot Grigios in the $10 price range.

Sparkling

Who says sparkling wine has to be for a celebration? Not me. I love a good sparkling wine on a warm summer night, and really summer is a season to celebrate. A sparkling wine can be refreshing on a hot day and adds a bit of sparkle to summer cocktails. At the last wine tasting I went to I had this Gia Frizzante a sparkling white wine with fruity flavors, it’s excellent and I’m thinking it will be perfect for pool side brunch.

Torrontes

An Argentinian grape variety, Torrontes is a white wine that can be served over ice with a slice of wine. It is unbelievably delicious this way and tastes a lot like a margarita minus the calories and added sugar. New Age White is my favorite Torrontes.
