State of Grace – 4 Months Old

You are 4 months old. 2 weeks ago you rolled over, you are my strong beautiful little girl. You no longer look like the little infant that I brought home and are growing into a wonderful chubby little baby. I love all your little rolls because I waited so long for them to appear. I love to lay you on your play mat and sing, “you’ve got the chubby, chubbies” to the tune of “I like to move it, move it” which I only noticed after your brother pointed it out to me.

You smile easier and coo and we can carry a conversation. You love music and will quiet down to listen to it, even when it’s your brother loudly banding on a xylophone. You love your Minnie Mouse toy and are happy to stare at her and figure out ways to reach for her. And when I put you in your pack n play you coo at Minnie and kick your legs against the crinkly Very Hungry Caterpillar Book. You finally like your bouncy seat and you still like your swing and while you aren’t a big fan of your car seat you fell asleep in it at Red Robin, a family first. I’ve never had a baby that slept in public.

You still like to be swaddled and you love all things cozy. You nurse like a champ and are always happy cuddled close in my arms. Your Daddy calls you his “pretty princess” and you seem to have outgrown your nickname of “fussy pants” though some days you like to revisit it.

We have found a bit of a routine, up for an hour and a half, then down for a nap, repeat. You slept through the night for a week and then decided it wasn’t your thing. I’m hoping you get there soon but when you do wake up you nurse and go back to sleep, and I have an extra cup of coffee the next day.

You’ve been in the pool 3 times and each time you seem to like it more. You love bath time and never fuss about having to get one.

We fuss over you much more than we did your brother. With him we were a bit lost, a bit overwhelmed, and a whole lot of worried that we were doing it all wrong. With you there is none of that. Maybe it’s that you are a girl or that you are our last baby but we are enjoying you in a whole new way.
