As the weather gets warmer I start to want a nice, fresh summery cocktail. After a long day of running kids around, watching 6 year-olds play slow-pitch baseball, and changing diapers Mom deserves a good drink.
And by good, I mean a drink that isn’t day-glo green or neon red and hasn’t been sitting on a store shelf for months. I generally dislike most drink mixes, a few years back I came up with my own way to make a pina colada because I couldn’t stand the mixes available. The other issue is John might want to enjoy a cocktail with me and he’s fructose intolerant and allergic to most artificial sweeteners which means no high fructose corn syrup or splenda for us.
So other than juicing my own limes, lemons and oranges when I want a cocktail, I’m usually out of luck. So when Ripe Craft Juice and Ripe Craft Bar Juice asked if they could send me samples, I was excited to give them a try. The juices are cold pressed, you can trace the fruit back to the farmer and they understand my dislike of day-glo green margaritas. The drink mixes are sweetened with agave nectar. Making them sweet but not too sweet.
Easy Craft Cocktail: Pomegranate Margaritas
4 oz Ripe Agave Margarita
2 oz Ripe Craft pomegranate Juice
2 oz Tequila
Ice
Instructions:
Fill a Margarita glass with ice. In a shaker place 1/2 cup of ice, 4 oz Ripe Agave Margarita, 2 oz Ripe Craft Pomegranate Juice and 2 oz of Tequila. Shake vigorously. Remove ice from margarita glass, using a wet paper towel dampen the rim of the margarita glass. Rim glass in margarita salt. Pour contents of shaker into the glass, minus the ice. Serve.
If pomegranate is not your thing, simply omit it for a traditional margarita. John and I both loved how fresh and “real” these cocktails tasted. And I feel like we have finally found cocktail mixes that we can enjoy with out all the added sugar, sweeteners and who knows what else.
After a long day of driving kids around and watching an excruciating hour and a half of 6 year-olds attempting to hit a ball, John and I both needed a drink. Our deal, I went home and mixed up the margaritas and he picked up Mexican take-out. And by the time both kids were in bed we were enjoying delicious fresh margaritas.
I was provided Ripe Craft Juice and Ripe Craft Bar products to try, all thoughts and opinions are my own. Look for more craft cocktail recipes in the coming weeks featuring Ripe Craft Bar and Ripe Craft Juices.
