When I think of thrift shopping two things come to mind: first the Macklemore song about popping tags and wearing your grandpa’s clothes; and my college roommates and our days of cutting out of class early and hitting up the racks at the local salvation army. Those days my thrift standards were pretty low. Old tee-ball tee shirt, hell yes. Button up shirt from the children’s section, I’ll take it.
But these days I have higher standards and while I haven’t been to the thrift store in years, I do regularly visit a consignment shop for kids clothes. So why not try it out for me. Afterall shopping second hand isn’t just wallet-friendly, it’s also environmentally friendly.
Swap.com provided me with $100 to revamp my fall wardrobe. I came up with a few fun fall looks that fit my mom lifestyle.
5 Fall Fashion Refresh
Indian Summer
It’s October and it’s still 80 but I want to wear all the fall things. My solution pairing this J. Crew plaid button-up shirt with shorts. Perfect for hitting the pumpkin patch or the neighborhood Octoberfest party.

Going Somewhere…
I love the little bit of sparkle and the ruffle on this long tank top from Express. It’s comfortable and great with leggings and a pair of booties. It’s casual enough for coffee with a friend but just the little bit of extra effort over your typical leggings and top. Not so perfect for running to catch the school bus.
Tank Top $7 – New with Tags
Playdate ready
I’m a girl who loves basics, so I love that this Express tee is basic but in a great fall color and a cute cut. It’s really flattering and soft. I would never pay full price for this but at $7 how could I pass this up? Great for chasing toddlers, playing on the floor and pushing little ones on the swings.
Tee Shirt $4 – New with Tags
Girls Night Out
Last week I went to dinner for a friends birthday, and I have zero things in my closet for a fall night out. Enter this Express little black top with some lace details and a fun cut, and be all set for whatever the night brings.
Black top $14 – New with Tags
Day Drinking
I love the comfort and forgiveness of this J. Crew dress, plus it has pockets. Who doesn’t love pockets? It pairs perfectly with an afternoon wine tasting or food truck festival.

How I Shopped Swap.com
I had a few requirements for my shopping. I wanted stuff that fits in with my current wardrobe. I also wanted things that were from higher quality brands because I can go to Target if I want Target. I also wanted items that were “like new” or “new with tags”.
When I started shopping on Swap I was overwhelmed by the options. Did I want a jacket? Or was I looking for a button-down shirt? Thankfully you can narrow your search by brands you like, styles you are looking for and condition of the clothes. Condition ranges from “new with tags” to “fair condition”. You can further limit your search by size, material or color.
I started my search selecting 3 brands I knew I loved but tend not to buy regularly because of price and I selected “new with tags” or “like new”.
Then I narrowed by size and style, I went with tops and dresses because I tend to avoid buying pants. I had plenty of great options to choose from and was extremely excited by all the new with tags items. One person’s top that didn’t work quickly became my new favorite shirt.
Prior to trying Swap.com, I had not even thought about consignment shopping for myself but now I know I will be coming back to Swap again to shop. Everything I ordered looked beautiful when it arrived and was clean and did not appear second-hand at all. The “like new” items were exactly that.
Swap.com provided me with $100 to shop, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

It sounds like they make it pretty easy to figure out what you’re going to wear. I should look into it. I’m horrible with fashion and don’t want to think about it. I do like basic simple outfits that I don’t have to worry about.

It’s a great way to find clothes that you like and try new styles.

This sounds really interesting. Do you know if they carry larger sizes? I like your pumpkin picking outfit since it has been so warm here!
Julia Hunter says
Yes they carry all sizes and I was really happy with the quality and that there are new with tags items.

I like the idea of thrift shopping but not too fond of thrift shops. The smell is what usually gets me! However having this online solves all of those problems!
