January has never been my favorite time of year. I find myself itching for something new. For new scenery, for new adventures. Hell for anything to get my mind off the next few months of cold. January is when I start planning my vacations. Some I actually take, some I mearly google.
Last year I made my first travel bucket list after I had LASIK surgery and was cleared to travel. And while we didn’t hit everything on the list it was nice to have a starting off point for the year. This year I’ve put together another bucket list and already have a few adventures planned.
2019 Travel Bucket List
Vermont
Vermont was on our 2018 bucket list but we didn’t make it there. But we are headed back to one of our favorite places, Smugglers’ Notch Resort in Vermont in January. We have visited in the summer but we can’t wait to experience Smuggs in the winter. Bring on the Snowshoeing and Hot Toddy’s.
Adirondack Mountains
Last week I was reading the Travel and Leisure 50 places to see in 2019 list and was having some serious wanderlust. So I found a location that was feasible for my family and figured if we couldn’t do 50 we might as well do at least one. I had always thought myself a beach girl but these days the mountains are calling. We are planning a trip to Upstate New York this spring.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
I haven’t seen one of my best friends in over a year, so this year we are planning a long overdue get girls trip. After months of trying to find a place that we could both travel to easily an off-handed comment made me realize that we could both easily get to Myrtle Beach. I’ve heard great things about Myrtle Beach and can’t wait to explore it on a much needed Girls Weekend.
Star Wars Land, Walt Disney World
Star Wars Land opens at Walt Disney World this Fall and to say my family is excited is an understatement. Star Wars Land will give guests an opportunity to fly the Millennium Falcon and to fight against the First Republic. I’m looking forward to watching my husband nerd-out.
Blue Mountains, Virginia
Do you see a theme here? Living at the beach, I’m feeling less inclined to take a beach vacation this year, though I do love them. John and I have been eyeing up Wintergreen Resort in the Blue Mountains as a possible trip this summer. Located in Virginia’s Blue Mountains, Wintergreen has onsight children’s programs and offers beer and wine tours. Wins all around.
Philadelphia, PA
John and I just got back from an overnight in Philly and we found ourselves wondering why we don’t spend more time in a city that is only an hour away? This year we want to spend more time exploring Philly and we will have an opportunity this fall when we head to the city for a family wedding.
Havana, Cuba
It’s only been in the past few years that you have been able to travel to Cuba from the United States. John and I have had our eye on a cruise that stops in Havanna and our favorite place, Key West. We would love to see Havana while it’s still authentic.
I love making a travel bucket list even if I know it’s not possible that I will get to every place on my list. I liked being able to look back at last years list and see where we went and where we didn’t go and what adventures surprised us along the way.
