For the past few years, I have made a travel bucket list. It’s mostly a “wishful thinking” list but it does include some places that I will definitely be traveling to this year. Our 2020 travel calendar is pretty booked already but I always like to leave room for some impromptu fun. In the last few years, there have been trips that we take that I never planned for (Ireland in 2018) or trips that we planned but never took (Vegas 2019).
In 2019 we went back to Vermont, this time for skiing we drove up the day after a blizzard and it was quite an adventure. We visited a farm in upstate New York which felt so wonderfully secluded from the world. We did a couples trip to Lewes, Delaware which I highly recommend if you live near there. I took a work trip to Nashville which is definitely a city that I want to go back to. And we had a quick last minute trip to Hershey Park in December to take in some holiday fun.
Where to Travel in 2020
Vacation on a Farm
Last year we visited Blind Buck Valley Farmstead in Salem, New York. Located about 5 hours from Atlantic City, NJ or 3 hours from Northern New Jersey. We spent a weekend with friends enjoying some much-needed downtime and relaxation in this large yet cozy farmhouse. We played games and took walks and it’s the trip the kids keep asking to take again. This year I’m headed back to Blind Buck Vally Farmstead but I’m leaving the kids behind for a girls weekend at the farm.
Paris, France
Who hasn’t always wanted to go to Paris? There’s the romance and wonder not to mention the food, fashion, and wine. I’ve always wanted to go to Paris. But I had thought Paris was years away however this year my husband surprised me with a trip to Paris as my Christmas present and we are headed there in April 2020. I can’t wait to take to see the Eiffel Tower and go on a Paris food tour.
London, England
Ever since seeing Wendy fly off with Peter Pan past Big Ben, I’ve wanted to go to London. From Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Love Actually, Bridget Jones and Harry Potter there are so many reasons why London has always been on my bucket list. After a few days in Paris, we will be spending a few in London. I can’t wait to see the Tower of London, to walk along the River Thames and of course to see Big Ben.
Smokey Mountains, Tennessee
This destination was on my 2018 travel bucket list but it didn’t happen because I had the opportunity to Ireland and the timing wouldn’t work for both. We decided on the Smokey Mountains for the summer and plan on staying in an Airbnb in the mountains with our favorite travel family. I’m looking forward to morning coffee with mountain views, moonshine tasting and maybe even Dollywood.
Caribbean
Last year our vacation leaned a little more cold weather, even our beach vacation to Ocean City, Maryland was cold in August. This year I wanted to go where it’s warm and where I’m guaranteed it will be warm. We debated a cruise or an all-inclusive and ultimately decided to go with a Disney Cruise since we enjoyed our last one so much. This time we are sailing out of Puerto Rico and heading to the St. Thomas and St. Johns.
While this is likely all the travel we will be able to do, I’m always wishing and planning for more. If I had the time and the money I would add on a trip to Gettysburg, PA, and a ski trip since Jackson had such a great experience learning to ski last year I’ve really wanted to get him back out on the slopes.
I’m really looking forward to this year’s travel plans, I love that we are seeing new places while revisiting places and experiences we love. And I’ve already started thinking about where we should go in 2021.
