How to Have a Wine Tasting at Home

Going to wine tastings is one of my favorite things to do. But sometimes once I get home the wine doesn’t quite taste the same. Maybe it’s cause my palate was washed out (code for drinking too many different kinds of wine), maybe my palate had too much wine and doesn’t remember how it tasted or maybe it’s because when you go to a wine tasting they serve the wine the right way.

Until recently I had thought that I couldn’t replicate that experience at home but you can have a winery quality tasting at home with a few things.

How to Have a Wine Tasting at Home

The Right Temperature

Having a wine tasting starts with chilling your wine at the right temperature. Here’s the thing your standard refrigerator is set at a temperature that is too cold for wine. Having a wine fridge allows you to chill your wine at the perfect temperature. After getting the New Air Premium Dual wine Fridge I immediately noticed that my wine at home tasted so much better and so much like the wine I had at a tasting.

The Right Glasses

You may have heard that there is a right glass for red wine and a right glass for white wine but there is actually a glass for almost every wine varietal. But there is no need to have a glass for every wine or even have more than one style of glass (though I have to admit I have way more wine glasses than I could ever need). But really all you need is a few glasses that you like. I personally prefer the taller glasses for a tasting but you can use any glasses you like.

The Right Snacks

My favorite part of going to a wine tasting is getting to try out new pairings. I love tasting different chocolates and cheeses with different wines. Here are a few of my favorite snacks to pair with wine: crackers, a variety of cheese, a variety of meats, Marcona almonds, chocolate, and apples. A good charcuterie board is always a good pairing with wine.

The Right Friends

The best part of going to a wine tasting is spending time with friends. When having one at home make sure to invite friends and ask them to bring along a favorite wine for the tasting. Wine is always best shared with friends.
