Watched The Wizard of Oz while listening to Dark Side of the Moon. They sort of go together, but it’s a bit of a stretch.
Watched you sit up for the first time. You did it as if you had been doing it all along.
Danced across the thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Danced to the Elmo’s World Song in my pajamas while feeding you rice cereal.
Sang karaoke in a dive bar in Washington. I do a mean Fergie (Boom, boom, boom).
Sang the wheels on the bus while driving through North Carolina till i was blue in the face. I do a mean horn on the bus (beep, beep, beep).
Walked to Charlie’s Bar for snow beers every time it snowed. Once it snowed four times in 2 weeks. Those were a good 2 weeks.
Walked back and forth across the living room every night for more weeks than I can count to soothe your colic. Those were some of the hardest weeks of my life.
Driven to Key West twice. Once for spring break, once for New Years Eve, both times with your Dad.
Driven to nowhere so that you would get a nap. Once to Belleplain State Forest, once to a neighborhood that we were considering moving to, both times with your Dad.
Listened to Britney Spears while driving a pick up truck.
Listened to the sound of you breathing while lying in bed.
Traveled to Italy and Switzerland as a senior in high school. Saw the Coliseum and the Vatican. Ate Swiss cheese.
Traveled half a mile down the street to a hospital in the middle of the night to have you. It was the longest 1/2 mile ever.
Ran through Disney’s MGM Studios to get in line to meet Soap Stars at Super Soap Weekend.
Ran through our tiny house when I heard you cry.
Saw Woodstock 99 and didn’t shower for 3 days.
Saw your face and knew it would be OK if I couldn’t shower for 3 days.
Spent too many nights at too many bars with too many beers.
Spent too much time taking too many pictures because I want to capture every moment.
Met Susan Lucci! And Josh Duhamel!
Met you and realized that nothing I had done mattered more than you .

I've always wanted to do that first one on your list…. I think we have Darkside of the Moon on cassette tape somewhere around here….

Love your list – it really captures the differences between pre-child and post child

Couldn't help it…even though the "before kid" things on your list sound fascinating and fun, the "after kid" things totally and completely melted my heart.

I have yet to watch The Wizard of Oz while listening to Dark Side of the Moon, but I still intend to someday. I'm so jealous that you got to attend Woodstock '99!

Beautiful Julia. Made me tear up a little.

It's good to get it down in writing because unfortunately your memory goes as life goes on. I want to make my own list now, but it won't be as interesting as yours.

Such a wonderful list! I don't have children yet, but this post reminds me that even though life is totally different after kids, it's definitely worth it 🙂

Great list! I love to look at pre- and post-baby side by side, it really helps to maintain perspective — you lived a full and rich life before the baby, enough so that you have no regrets and can fully enjoy the richness of your life after the baby. Great job!

This is a really touching list. Thanks for the inspiration.
