So we’ve been potty training around here. It actually isn’t awful. Which is a shock to me because I always assumed it would be. It always loomed large in the future. I remember thinking when Jack was about 18 months, ugh potty training that will be a bitch.
So I put it off, and then put it off some more. There was no point in potty training a child who wasn’t interested or ready.
Except that in the past month or so I’ve started to suspect that he was ready and maybe I just wasn’t. Over a week ago John decided that a lazy day at home was a great time to kick potty training into high gear.
The first few days were rough. There were fights to wear pull ups and fights to sit on the potty and tears. And at one point I thought screw it diapers are easy.
But we turned a corner and only a mother can understand what a joy it is to hear the words, “Mommy I have to go potty”.
And while we aren’t 100% there I would say we are about 99% there.
I think there are and were a lot harder things in parenting than potty training. And when I think back to a year ago I find it hard to believe that in the next few days or weeks I will have a fully potty trained child and there won’t be diapers in my house.
Honestly it’s weird, and sad and exciting and freeing all at once. Like so much of this ride is.

ha ha ha! That is TOO funny! I'm glad you're almost there. It WAS a bitch with my first guy so it sounds like you've had it pretty good! And it is a little weird not to have diapers but SO awesome! 😀

Sorry to hear your first was so hard to potty train, I think I just got lucky.

Bahaha! The pee cup is hilarious. You've summed up EXACTLY how I feel about potty training. I'm always the last one ready, and it's never quite as bad as I think it will be. And then it's done, and kind of awesome. Congrats!
Julia Hunter says
Thank you! It really isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Wowowoow! Ok, so happy for comment love as I clicked over right as soon as I saw your comment. I am so in the middle of this right now with L. First, let me say that B completely trained himself because I am such a slacker. I didn't push, just let him say when and poof! he did it. True he was almost 4. So now with L- he's three next week and very, very interested. I'll be honest and say that wish he did it like B did. This is kind of weird because he insists on wearing underpants- but REFUSES to go at all when wearing them. LIke hours and hours and hours. And I am of course too afraid to leave the house….. So anyhow. I say great job mom. This is one of those 'messy parts' of parenting for sure.

It is definitely one of the messy parts. You know we skipped the whole stay in the house bit, we just went out and he actually did a better job remembering when we were out than he did when we were home. It is hard and we still aren't 100%, it just takes time and patience.
