So we are more than half way through January, and I wanted to give an update on the state of my Happiness Project.
For January my focus was on organizing so I printed out Gretchen’s January organizing chart to help me keep my self on task. It really helped having these little boxes to check off at the end of the day. Kinda like a daily sticker chart for moms.
One of the things on the chart is “tackle a nagging task”. I always tend to put things off especially if it is something I have no desire to do, like clean my laundry room or organize drawers or clean the baseboards in the upstairs hall that no one ever see’s but us. But here’s the thing I see these spaces every day and every time I looked at those dusty base boards they drove me nuts but I always had an excuse as to why I didn’t do it. The vacuum makes too much noise or I was already downstairs. Same goes for the laundry room, my mentality was no one see’ s it but us.
But this week I tackled all 3 of those trouble spots. And honestly every time I go upstairs or to the laundry room or open my kitchen drawers I’m amazed by how unmessy it is and how easy it was. The laundry room is much improved and while it may never be a pinworthy space I am thinking about sprucing it up a bit more. Maybe add some decoration because if I have to be in there it might as well look nice.
But I got a new lap top over the holiday (my husband rocks or he got tired of me begging him to fix it) and we finally got all the password related problems sorted out. There was nothing left to do but for me to finish what I had started. Yet I had no motivation to do it, and it just hung around my head like a thing that I kept forgetting to do. It was literally nagging the hell out of me.
So on Monday I sat down and finished it, and once I got started I realized that I had actually done more work than I remembered and finishing it wasn’t so bad. And now it’s done and that in itself is a huge relief.
And when I think about these “nagging tasks” that are done, I want to tackle more “nagging tasks” like my basement and the cabinets in the kitchen that are in desperate need of being organized.
At first I was overwhelmed with these tasks and I had a really long list. Now I just list one nagging task a day. I find it easier to accomplish one task I don’t want to do than to look at all the tasks I don’t want to do. And as the list of tasks gets shorter the happier I am and the more eager I am to tackle another.
So yeah, getting rid of nagging tasks makes me happier.
What nagging tasks do you have?

Oh I am the worst at clearing off the table. I try to do it every night but sometimes I just forget.

You've really gotten a lot done!! I feel the same way, it's so easy to get overwhelmed when you think of the ever growing to-do list, especially when there are lots of things you just don't want to do piling up on it as well. I've been working on a lot of things trying to get caught up, and now that I feel I'm finally making some headway I feel so much better and want to keep going!!
Stopping by from our new SITS Tribe!! 🙂 I look forward to following you and getting to know you better!! 🙂

That's so great that you are getting caught up on things, it always feels good to accomplish stuff.

Oh my goodness I have TOO many… A huge one for me that I keep putting off is sitting down and writing myself a schedule. I know that once I do it, I will feel SO much better knowing where my time is allocated and really banging things out in the time allotted, but I just can't sit down and do it! I feel like eventually the chaos of not having a schedule (for things like schoolwork, blogging, etc.) will drive me bananas… but I'm not there yet 😉
So glad to be part of your SITS tribe and to learn more about you! Heading to your pinterest now 😉 ~Jenna

I need to write a schedule too. I'm terrible at managing my time.

I have soooo many nagging tasks! The biggest for me are my bedroom (where all of mine and my husband's clean laundry gets dropped and rarely put away) and also all the paperwork that comes in the house. 3 kids bringing home notes, homework, art projects. Trying to go through it eat week and go ahead and let go. My daughter is 7 and up until this year I have kept everything!! Aah! Sweet memories to look through one day though.
Stopping by from our SITS tribe! Look forward to getting to know you better!

I have the same problem with my bedroom, it's always the last place on my to-do list and therefore the messiest.

Nagging tasks are the worst. I totally agree. But I also feel the same way that after they are done I feel so much better.

Isn't it odd that we know we will feel better when they are done but we still put them off?!
