Life with two kids has thrown me for a loop. So many things were easier to accomplish with one than with two. And anyone who has had a newborn knows that it feels like the only things you have time for are feeding the baby, changing diapers and sleep. Lately I find myself saying, “Mom ain’t got time for that”.
Mom Ain’t Got Time For:
Picking up everyone’s stuff from around the house. I don’t have time to pick up the 4 hats that my husband randomly leaves around the house or the 3 pairs of shoes that Jack drops wherever he decides to take them off.
Cleaning just about anything. I’m tired and there just seem to be so many messes and so little time. And once I’ve tackled one there are still too many more and by the next day it’s a mess again.
Looking for all the things that aren’t mine. Like the John’s keys or Jack’s goggles or Crocs or soccer cleats.
Shopping. If it can’t be purchased online, it’s just not happening.
Monitoring screen time. I have no idea what day it is let alone the time or the amount of time Jack has been playing Lego Marvel on the Xbox. So I judge how long is too long based on how annoyed I am by the sound the game makes.
Eating a meal of any kind. Lately I’m shoveling everything into my face because Grace always seems to want to wake up and eat, as soon as I sit down to eat. Since I’m nursing I’m always hungry and always thirsty but it hasn’t been easy squeezing nutritious meals into the mix. And some days (most days) it is easier to shove a cookie in my mouth than it is to make lunch.
Last week I swore I was going to do a better job of eating healthy and decided to try making a filling and nutritious smoothie that would not only satisfy my hunger but would be good for an on the go meal, because these days the only time I sit down is to nurse.
Mom Ain’t Got Time – Peach Mango Smoothie
1 over ripe banana
1 cup of Gerber Peach Yogurt Blends
1 TBSP Gerber Oatmeal and Banana Cereal
1 cup frozen mango chunks
1/2 cup almond milk (can swap this for regular milk or coconut milk)
Water (optional)
Combine all ingredients except water in a 20 oz cup, using an immersion blender, blend until smooth. If smoothie is too think add water or additional almond milk.
This peach mango smoothie is perfect for taking with me on a walk or to school pick up. It’s also something that I can enjoy with one hand while I’m nursing. It’s filling and it helps to keep me hydrated. The Gerber Oatmeal and Banana Cereal thickens the smoothie while adding extra nutrients without a ton of extra calories. Gerber cereals are fortified with iron which is not only necessary for babies but, is a nutrient that I was deficient in after giving birth. I love that Gerber supports breastfeeding and that their foods will provide Grace with a variety of flavors to try once she is ready to transition to solids.
I may not have time for much but at least I can enjoy a delicious smoothie even if I’m enjoying it on the go.
