When I was younger I spent a lot of time in heals and tops that were far from comfortable. I remember many a night out, ditching my shoes and walking through a club hoping not to step on glass but figuring the risk was worth not having to spend another moment in those shoes. When I was in my 20’s I accepted that being uncomfortable was part of working or going out, it came with the territory.
The older I get the less I’m willing to accept having to be uncomfortable. Stiletto’s for a wedding definitely, for Saturday night only if it’s a special occasion, and even then I’m more likely to wear a wedge than a stiletto. And when making plans I’m often tempted to say, “if I can’t wear leggings I’m not going”.
When it comes to style I’m definitely all about what is comfortable but still looks stylish. I don’t need to be trendy I just don’t want to look frumpy. I’ve put together some of my favorite pieces that are comfortable and stylish.

Comfortable and Stylish Wardrobe Staples
Tee Shirts
Tee shirts are my wardrobe staple. I have a mix of cheeky ones with sayings and some very basic ones. I like them to be a little flowy but I won’t say no to a good fitted one. I think you should not buy tees at fast fashion stores.
1. They tend to stretch and I want my tee to fit the way it was when I brought it.
2. They don’t hold up under multiple washings and I tend to wear my tees a lot.
3. I think it’s worth it to spend on basics you are going to wear again and again.
This is my new favorite tee. It’s got an incredibly flattering cut and neckline and you can dress it up if need be. I wore this to a wine tasting with some heals and it was comfortable and fun. I own it in black, white and grey.
Gap is great for comfortable essentials. I love this tee which is more fitted and this one that is a bit more forgiving. I have one of each in black and white.
Tank Tops
I like my tank tops the same way I like my tees, a little flowy with a bit of style. This one is a new-found favorite, I love the v-neck, it’s so flattering. This one is perfect for mom life because it’s not showy or tight and goes with everything. And I have not been able to find this one in stock but if you find it let me know. Also this tank is my go-to everyday tank and it’s made in america, for real, not just a slogan.
Leggings
Up until yesterday I had yet to find a pair of leggings that I loved. Yes, I have a drawer full of Lula Roe but while I love the buttery softness the quality for the price is somewhat meh. Then yesterday I put these on and life will never be the same again (which is what happens when you start insisting on having quality wardrobe staples). These leggings hold you in and are super flattering in the back and they are so comfortable.
If the slits are a bit overwhelming for you these are super cute and I feel like I need these because, basic black leggings are life. Also don’t be intimidated by the high waist, I recently learned that high waist is your friend.
Shoes
Let’s keep it simple: flip flops, Converse, Uggs.
Shorts
I’m going to say a few words about shorts.
- I feel most people regardless of body type look better in shorts than capris.
- Capri’s make you look dated.
- I’m not classy enough to manage sitting on the floor with my kids in a skirt.
Now it’s a matter of finding the right shorts and the right length. I find these shorts to be pretty much perfect.
What to Wear Under it All
I’m currently obsessed with bralettes. I’m not sure where they have been all my life. Taking my bra off is no longer the much awaited favorite part of my day. This is my favorite but I also love this one and this one.
Do not be swayed by these undies “one size fits all” I swear they really do and they are so comfortable.
