It’s January! That phrase either brings you excitement at the promise of a new year or it fills you with a feeling of dread at all the “new year, new you- lets all diet and hit the gym mentality”. I usually fall into the latter category. January is not the time of year for me to try anything new or to start something. January is the time of year where I debate if humans can hibernate and how often is too often to wear my “let’s stay home” sweatshirt.
But there is still something you should totally do in order to start the new year off on the right foot and set the pace for the year ahead.
8 Things You Must Do in January
Buy a Case of Wine
Yes a case, wine is cheaper in bulk and trust me if there was ever a month to need 12 new friends it’s January, the longest damn month of the year. Matter of fact you should probably buy 2 cases and save one for February.
Shop all things cozy
Winter isn’t coming, it’s here. But now that Christmas is past most of the winter things are on sale. Buy yourself a large cozy blanket, new slippers, soft sweatpants and a cozy mug.
Make a hot toddy.
It’s the perfect drink for January whether you have a cold or not this drink is sure to heal what ails you. Try this hot toddy recipe.
Put the kids to bed earlier
The sun will soon start to set later and later to take advantage of these dark days of winter and put the kids to bed a little earlier, it’s so dark they won’t notice.
Organize your closet
If like me you have been hoarding Christmas presents in your closet since November then your closet is definitely in need of some purging. Get rid of all the things that you haven’t worn or have owned for longer than your youngest child or any of these items.
Cancel plans
You just left behind a season of doing all the things, now is the time to do nothing. If you’ve made plans cancel them. No one likes getting together in January no matter what they tell you. Keep the calendar clear so you can spend more time on the couch binge-watching and reading books.
Find a new show to binge watch.
I’m currently binging on the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon Prime. My husband is watching The Arrow. Now is a time to pick up a new show and go all in.
Unsubscribe / Unfollow / Unfriend
A few years ago I decided that January is the time to purge, to let go of things and not take any crap into the New Year with you. So what does that mean? Well it means that I unsubscribe from pretty much every email list I’m on, I unfollow websites that are no longer relevant to me and I unfriend anyone who doesn’t bring anything to my life. Quick and easy.
Above all else take it easy in January. November and December are such a rush, filled with so many things to do that while the world may say, January is the time of year to start a new you, I think it’s best to curl up with your old self and hibernate for a while.
